Western astrology is positional — it reads where planets sit at a moment in time and infers personality or fortune from that chart. The I-Ching is situational — it reads the current configuration of a cycle (year pillar, month pillar, day pillar) and asks what tendency follows. Astrology answers 'who you are'; the I-Ching answers 'what is moving now'.
Astrology excels at personality frameworks and life-phase narratives — that is why it dominates consumer apps. The I-Ching excels at timing and tendency: given this year's pillar and this month's energy, what direction does a market, a match, or a project tend to move? That is a falsifiable claim, which means it can be measured.
Because I-Ching readings produce discrete directional signals (up/down, strong/weak) at fixed calendar points, they can be back-tested like a quant strategy. Our lab runs exactly these tests: year-pillar directional signals on liquid stocks, solar-term windows on commodities, hexagram consensus on match outcomes. Transparent archives, published weekly. Astrology, by comparison, is harder to falsify.
